What do you think of this show?
CBS and Executive producer R.J. Cutler are about to see success beyond their wildest dreams. Greatest American Dog premieres on CBS, Thursday, July 10th at 8 p.m. I wonder if they truly understand just how huge this doggie demographic really is. Well, I am sure they have some idea or they wouldn’t have made this a prime time show.
Not only is CBS expanding their reality show lineup which already includes Survivor, Amazing Race and Big Brother. But now they are combining it with something very close to our hearts – America’s love of dogs. The “world’s” love for that matter. Where Big Brother meets Best in Show, Greatest American Dog is going to be as big if not bigger than American Idol but without the bad show tunes.
Twelve dogs from around the U.S. along with their owners will live together and compete in specific challenges that will test the owner’s ability to train their dog. As with most reality show competitions, one team will be eliminated each week. The winning team gets $250,000. That’s a lot of dog biscuits if you ask me.
What a concept. Greatest American Dog will appeal to such a wide audience. Whether you are the type that never misses an AKC dog championship, spends Saturday morning at the dog park or simply tosses a Frisbee for Fido every now and again, this show will appeal to everyone. After all, who doesn’t like to see a chubby English Bulldog catchin’ a ride on a skateboard? I don’t know about you but that gets me every time.
So I am going to watch the show this Thursday and let you know what I think. Check back here for updates each week. Post your comments about the show and cast your vote each week for who will be eliminated, right here on the BocaDog Forum.
Be sure to subscribe to this blog because in the next few weeks we will be asking readers to send in their videos of their attempts at teaching their dogs the tricks they see on the show. Should be great fun!
